Turda Saline is probably the most famous tourist destination for the tourists who visit Turda. This salt mine traces its origins back to Roman times and is one of the reasons for which this place developed very quickly after the Roman’s withdraw from Dacia.
As years went by it has been discovered that salt environment is extremely appropriate for treating breathing diseases due to the constant temperature of 10-120 C and of the humidity of 75-80% and to the optimal concentration of aerosols (very small solid salt particles). The speed of air currents is of maximum 0,2 m/s (0,02 m/s in the Rudolf mine). As a consequence, the Rudolf mine was transformed into an underground treatment room.
